Jeep Play on the Beach
Temperatures at home were up to 110 and above, where to go to beat the heat? The beach! Beautiful weather and playing in the sand was a blast. There wasn’t anyone on the beach, so I pretty much had the beach to myself, who doesn’t love that?
I did some Geocaching in the area, but mostly it was just great to be on the beach, and enjoy the cooler weather. One of the Geocaches that I routed to took me to the Samoa Speedway: Welcome to Samoa Drag Strip, so I stayed and enjoyed some of the races. Because my arrival was later in the afternoon I got in free!
Around Lunch time I headed down for some crab at the: Seascape Restaurant Trinidad.
All in all it was a fun day and much cooler than my hometown… how do you beat the heat?

Black Butte-y is #10,000!
So honored that my best friends and fellow geocachers SeanStafford&GCWidow invited me along to capture their 10,000 cache!! Sean wanted to hike the Black Butte, with this Geocache as his goal:
GCJJGZ Black Butte-y (Traditional Cache) in California by MtnMike
I am posting the honoree pictures first, as this was our goal for the hike. Sean and Melissa’s #10,000 Geocache! I was honored to be present!! Scroll down for pictures of the beautiful hike to this goal.
Today is the day! We set our GPS‘s towards Black Butte and head out. The weather looks great, we have water, snacks and Sean is hard to hold back at this point. Sean and Melissa had attempted this geocache on a previous trip up Black Butte, however they encountered some muggles (non-geocachers) on the path down to the cache. For whatever reason they would not move, not having much room to maneuver up there, and not having another way to the cache they had to abandon the goal. This was not going to happen today, Sean was going to get his cache, and nothing was going to stop him!! We parked at the trailhead, which was also a challenge to Sean and Melissa on their first attempt. They never found the road into the trailhead, so they ended up hiking another mile just to get to the trail head. This day is already off to a great start!!
Here we go… change the shoes, grab the water and we are off. Melissa is in the lead, she was soon out of sight! Sean and I are stopping to take pictures and making sure we are well hydrated. The views are immediately gratifying. Its a gradual hike up, the elevation gain is 1850 ft.

This has been on my radar for a long time, for some reason it just looked like it was going to be a hard one to locate. Looking at the maps and the access in to the area, so Cantseem and I set our sights on this one, it has long been on his radar too! I go to pick him up and doubt is written all over his face… hmmmm he is wanting to change up our plans. Nope! We are going, it’s what we planned so lets G-O!! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Gotta say that it was probably one of the best days of Geocaching that I have ever done! It was beautiful!! The access in was no problem, however it would be in the winter with snow on the ground. So glad we stuck with our plan, now I have a smiley 🙂 there!! We were able to grab 2 others in the area too:
GCGFBB SkyHook (Traditional Cache) by MtnSteve and Sequel
GCB3F4 Come and Get It (Traditional Cache) by Mtnsteve and Sequel.
The CO does an awesome job of maintaining these caches up here! I liked this trip so much that I am putting together a Jeep run with my Geocaching family back up to the area, I want to get the other 2 caches in the area too!! So stay tuned, its gonna be a day of off roading, Jeeping and Geocaching in a couple of weeks, before the snow flys!!

Summertime in NoCal – Caching and Fishing
GC1J6N8 Loyd’s Hole (Traditional Cache) in California, United States created by Rat & Mushroom.
July and August has been very busy with Fishing trips and Geocaching adventures. From sunup to sundown we have been out the door at what we call “zero stupid thirty” and on the trail or on the river, hunting down Geocaches, Salmon, Munzees, whatever is the challenge at the time.
In July Munzee had their 2nd Anniversary so they were publishing birthday cakes, the challenge was they were only active for 12 hours and once they were gone they were gone, but once you “captured” one it was 100 points!!
August brought the 31 day challenge for Geocaching, your reward is a new souvenir for everyday that you find and log a cache. Find one a day for the month of August. In the middle of the month was International Caching day that hosted its own souvenir.
August also brings the return of the Salmon up there on the Sacramento River. I have some great friends (who happen to be Geocachers too) that took me Salmon fishing!! When we weren’t fishing we stopped along the banks of the Sacramento and either grabbed a cache or placed some!!

It has been a fun summer, so go on, grab a cache or 31 of them and I will see you on the trail!
Some Interesting Stats
I don’t always review my stats, but every now and then it’s fun to see what I have accomplished in that area. Today I ran my stats in the “My Geocaching Profile” stats program and was surprised to see that I had completed the “Alpha-Numeric Cache Name Challenge” I didn’t even know there was such a thing! So its fun to review and see what I challenge I can complete next!! What Challenge have you completed lately?

Cali~Bear celebrates her Birthday in Benicia
I have a birthday coming up, and my wish is to go Geocaching for the weekend. BIG BEAR and SeanStafford two of my favorite cachers to cache with took me up on the offer and were able to get away too! BIG BEAR looked around for an area that we all could cache and spotted the cool little town of Benicia. We like to do Virtuals and there were 10 or more around Benicia that we could do with some traditional and multi caches as well. We met up with Sean around 9:30 Sunday morning and the weather was beautiful, so off we go!
This was our first stop. This virtual told the history of the founder of the town and how the town got it’s name. Did you know that Benicia was the first city in the new state of California to be incorporated and at the same time was named the county seat of Solano County? And for a time it was the capitol of California, before the legislature moved to Sacramento?

Now up to the center of the little town of Benicia to this Virtual:
GC98C2 Working Capitol (Virtual Cache) by dgreno.
Out behind the Capitol Building there was a rather bumpy brick path that took us by several historical plaques commemorating events around Benicia and then we found an old Barn full of wagons and antiques, it is part of the Museum that is now inside the Capitol Building.
The little town of Benicia is home to quite a few more fun caching adventures:

Honoring a Fallen Soldier: Chad Regelin-Earned 16 medals; Anderson High grad was Sailor of Year
Shampoodles called me and asked me if I wanted to stand on horseback with the Redding Rodeo group for Chad Reglein’s funeral procession… would I? Absoulutly!!
We were honored to stand by on horseback with flags held high, while the funeral procession wound it’s way from Anderson to the Igo Veterans Cemetary where Chad was laid to rest. We stood by with hundreds of people who lined the streets to honor this amazing young man that gave his life for our Country. We waived to all who were taking part in the line of cars, some were very decorated Military Officers, some were family in black limosines, and some were just part of the many friends and family that knew him and grew up with him. Most waived back and gave us a thumbs up too, some waived their kleenex and even some saluted, we tried to hold back our tears but they came anyway. Such a privilege to honor this young man and the life he gave up for me so that I have the freedom to live in America. Thank you Chad Reglelin, I did not know you personally but I wish I had and thank you for all you did for our country: The United States of America, may God Bless America!

Thank you Shampoodles for asking me to be a part of such an amazing morning and thank you for letting me ride Goldfish, what a beautiful horse! I was honored to stand with you and Ponytails to salute Chads funeral procession
After the funeral procession Shampoodles & Ponytails loaded up the horses and we all headed out to the Jelly’s Ferry area for a great afternoon of horseback riding and geocaching. The days are still short but we managed to get 5 Geocaches before heading back to the barn… Thank you Shampoodles was a great day!

Manton Apple Festival & Geocaching
Oct 1, 2011 – After teaming up with Crow & Flo to come to the Manton Apple Festival aaaannnnd after consuming some Apple Pie and Ice Cream, its time to get down to business…
So heading back to the Geo Mobiles…and caching around Shingletown today. I logged 27 caches today. It was really looking like Fall all around us today.
Had a great time, especially getting to BIG BEARS Ice Box cache where we had to walk across a log about 10 feet above the creek to get to the other side.
