Do you know your Scientists?
If your asking me, I do not… 😉
but there is a Geocacher or two in our area that has the lowdown, or should I say the rundown on the Scientists and he recently published a series of caches with names as titles and gave a brief description of each one. I enjoy when a cacher puts this much time and effort into a cache or a series of caches. I usually pickup a piece of knowledge that I might not have known, or as in this case I added a few names of scientists that I never knew about. I spent yesterday with my Geocaching buddy Cantseem on the hunt for the Scientist Series.
We had rain clouds all around us, not a drop on us, that is until we finished the last cache, jumped in the GeoMobile and started heading home 😉
The highlight of the day was when we found our way into another Lookout Tower Cache, one of my favorite type of caches to do! The views are always amazing and this one didn’t disappoint:

Honoring a Fallen Soldier: Chad Regelin-Earned 16 medals; Anderson High grad was Sailor of Year
Shampoodles called me and asked me if I wanted to stand on horseback with the Redding Rodeo group for Chad Reglein’s funeral procession… would I? Absoulutly!!
We were honored to stand by on horseback with flags held high, while the funeral procession wound it’s way from Anderson to the Igo Veterans Cemetary where Chad was laid to rest. We stood by with hundreds of people who lined the streets to honor this amazing young man that gave his life for our Country. We waived to all who were taking part in the line of cars, some were very decorated Military Officers, some were family in black limosines, and some were just part of the many friends and family that knew him and grew up with him. Most waived back and gave us a thumbs up too, some waived their kleenex and even some saluted, we tried to hold back our tears but they came anyway. Such a privilege to honor this young man and the life he gave up for me so that I have the freedom to live in America. Thank you Chad Reglelin, I did not know you personally but I wish I had and thank you for all you did for our country: The United States of America, may God Bless America!

Thank you Shampoodles for asking me to be a part of such an amazing morning and thank you for letting me ride Goldfish, what a beautiful horse! I was honored to stand with you and Ponytails to salute Chads funeral procession
After the funeral procession Shampoodles & Ponytails loaded up the horses and we all headed out to the Jelly’s Ferry area for a great afternoon of horseback riding and geocaching. The days are still short but we managed to get 5 Geocaches before heading back to the barn… Thank you Shampoodles was a great day!

New Year – New Caching Adventure!
typically starts off with getting together with friends and family and watching football, or just relaxing after a hectic New Years dayChristmas season. This year we fired up the Jeeps, called our Geocaching Friends and said the weather is perfect lets go off road and grab some 5 star terrain Geocaches! 5 Star Terrain ususally means you need a high clearance 4 wheel drive vehicle which is why we all have Jeeps!! What a blast this was, 7 Jeeps, 12 Geocachers: BIG BEAR, Lookout4 and Anna, Teco_mac, Cantseem, Playcache 1&2, JeeperJones 1&2, Crowshoot & Floflower… oh and Tru2Cntry, 2 non Geocachers (hey they have a Jeep, they qualify!) Lets all meet at 12:00 at the OHV4 Staging Area.
Ok, we are all here… let the fun begin!

Sean Hits 5000 Caches and gets an FTF!
July 23, 2011 – Just a great weekend from start to finish. Sean our good friend and fellow Geocacher drove 7 hours to come up to Red Bluff and do the Leap Frog Series. He finished that on Friday got a good nights sleep then met up with us to head north to the Apostle Series where there was still one left un-found after being published for a month. Well we packed up, loaded up and hit the trail. It is about an 60 or more mile trip up to the Ai-Di-Na Unpaved Road all the while picking up caches along the way and confirming with Sean “Just how many more do you have left until your 5000th cache?”
He was counting them down, 9, 8, 7 then we were down to 3 more. BIG BEAR had a brilliant idea… lets make the Geocache that has been un-found the 5000 find for Sean, that’s if we figured right and could find it. BIG BEAR had done the reconfiguring on it and felt it was off by one number on the coordinates, he is good with figuring those things out. And Sean was in total agreement, Sean doesn’t see much First to Find action in his neighborhood in Palo Alto. When something gets published the Geocachers are all over it. This would be his 4th FTF if we could pull it off. We were losing daylight, so we decided to head to the campground after finding 2 more and unpack our tents then head back up to search for the illusive Thomas Cache.
We did just that, unpacked the tents and the sleeping back and set up a quick camp. Loaded Sean into the GORF (our Great Off Road Fun vehicle) and set off back up the unpaved dirt road in search of Sean’s 5000th Cache!! About 10 minutes later we arrived at what we thought would be the likely area to search and in 5 minutes Sean had the cache in hand!!! WHOOO HOOO SEAN!!! Way to go!! Well we whooped and hollered and made a bunch of noise, broke open the glow sticks and congratulated Sean on his 5000th find and his 4th First to Find!!!!!!
I was honored to be a part of being on the hunt with Sean, we had a blast that day and into the night. We headed back to the campground after a signing the log and basking in the glory of such a fun achievement. When we got back to the campground Sean popped the cork on the Sparking Cider and we toasted to his accomplishment! BIG BEAR put together the biggest hamburgers I have ever seen and grilled them on the grill, we sat down and had a well deserved dinner. Then busted out the marshmallows and taught Sean how to roast them. He is from Ireland and had never had the opportunity before to roast marshmallows.
